God has such a sense of humor!
It was 11:00 at night. I was already in bed when I remembered I hadn't done my devotional for the day, so I went to the living room. I picked up Mom's Bible and, not really wanting to read the Psalms or anything else in particular, randomly picked Deuteronomy, then randomly picked chapter eight. As I read I realized some similarities between wandering Israel and our family, when a word suddenly jumped off the page at me...
SCORPIONS!
In case you didn't know, we've had a big scorpion problem at our new house. We thought they were gone, but then we had seen one in the kitchen that day. What are the chances? I couldn't believe it!
But wait, it gets better.
I was looking in the concordance to see just how often the word "scorpion" showed up, (4 times actually), when I heard our cat Wallace meowing. It looked like he was playing with his shadow on the wall, or maybe a spider or something. I got up to check and, you'll never believe this,
THERE WAS A SCORPION ON THE WALL!!
Again, I couldn't believe it! I thought about getting Dad, but he was already asleep in bed and I didn't want to wake him up. I tried spraying it with ammonia, the only thing I could think of but that was taking too long. I went to the hall closet and pulled out the ultimate weapon... my cowboy boot. After checking to make sure there weren't any scorpions in it, I pulled it onto my foot. It took awhile, but I finally got up the nerve to squish the scorpion.
CRUNCH!!!
It was GROSS!
I left the contaminated boot where it was, and went to read the Psalms so I could calm down enough to go to bed.
Very funny, God! : )
